New Hope, PA (October 9) – Northeast Regional Pride (NERP), which co-ordinates LGBTQIA* conferences for New England and the mid-Atlantic states, announced today that New Hope, Pennsylvania, has been chosen as host city for its 2019 conference, which will take place from March 7-10. Tyler Evertsen, co-Regional Director for NERP, said, “we are excited to bring the 2019 meeting to an area so many of us love to visit, one with such rich history in our movement.”
New Hope Celebrates, Inc. (NHC) will coordinate the NERP Conference, which will bring as many as 200 Pride organizers and activists to New Hope. The program itself will combine educational and organizing sessions with an opportunity for participants to sample New Hope’s attractions. NHC President Matt Hanson stated that the presentation “highlighted not only New Hope’s rich history of diversity and caring, but also the great attractions in and around New Hope.” He listed New Hope’s outstanding restaurants and bars, art galleries, shops, spas and salons and visitor attractions such as wine tours and Washington Crossing State Park as specific points of focus.
Sharon Fronabarger, past President of NHC and a member of the NHC delegation, noted that “delegates were tremendously excited to hear about revitalization projects such as Odette’s, The Ferry Market, The Logan Inn and The Playhouse Inn.” They also responded enthusiastically to “i am new hope”, the Equality Project that NHC plans to launch nationally by NHC on October 16.
This will be the second NERP Conference in New Hope, following a successful event in 2013. Interpride veterans who recalled the 2013 meeting expressed enthusiasm about returning to New Hope.
The next steps for New Hope Celebrates include forming a Planning Committee and preparing a formal schedule of events to present at the 2018 NERP meeting March 1-4 in Providence, Rhode Island. Commercial and arts organizations in New Hope have already begun to offer support as word of the conference appeared in social media.
In recent years, NERP meetings have been held in Washington D.C. and Staten Island, NY. The 2020 conference is planned for Charlotte, NC.
NHC has been a member of InterPride Region 6 for the past nine years. Region 6 comprises the Northeast Region (NERP) which includes Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington DC.
