As summer begins to wind down and a new school year approaches, August offers an important reminder that every young person deserves to feel safe, supported, and celebrated for exactly who they are. In recognition of International Youth Day on August 12, we’re especially grateful for organizations like the Rainbow Room, which help LGBTQ+ youth find community, connection, and a place to belong.

That same spirit of belonging carries throughout this month’s newsletter. August shines in Yellow as our Every Color Tells a Story campaign celebrates joy and chosen family, while the final days of summer bring opportunities to gather at the Lemonade Social and honor NHC founder Dan Brooks at New Hope Historical Society annual gala, Moonlight Over the Delaware.

We’re also looking ahead to an exciting fall filled with theater, community, and plenty of Pride. Join us for RENT and the inaugural Pride Polo in September, then return for OUT in October with even more events, including the 22nd Annual High Heel Drag Race. Summer may be winding down, but there are still plenty of reasons to celebrate together.

                                             Pride Takes the Reins
NHC and the Gay Polo League Make History
On Saturday, September 12, New Hope Celebrates will welcome the Gay Polo League (GPL) to Bucks County for the inaugural Pride Polo: Where Pride Meets the Polo Field at Tinicum Park Polo Club. Set along the Delaware River in Erwinna, the event will bring together world-class polo, colorful style, and a shared commitment to LGBTQ+ visibility and inclusion. Gates open at 12:00 PM, with the first match beginning at 1:00 PM. Guests are encouraged to gather their friends, dress in polo-inspired attire or festive Pride fashion, and experience an afternoon unlike any other in Bucks County. View FAQ’s.

For those new to the sport, Pride Polo is also an opportunity to discover a tradition that dates back more than 2,000 years. Once known as the “Game of Kings,” polo began as a way to train cavalry and is now played in more than 75 countries. During a match, two teams of four players race across the field on horseback, working to drive the ball toward the opposing goal while following rules designed to protect both players and horses. Much of the action revolves around the “line of the ball,” an imaginary path that determines which player has the right of way. Spectators will see speed, strategy, precision, and teamwork unfold just feet from the sidelines and gain a new appreciation for these athletes and horses.

Guests can choose the Pride Polo experience that best fits their group. Base ticket prices are listed below; Eventbrite fees will be added at checkout:

  • General Admission — $40 per person: Access to the polo grounds, with fieldside spots along the rail available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Rainbow Rail Tailgate — $400 for eight guests ($50 per person): A private 10-by-10-foot tailgate space with eight admission tickets.
  • VIP NHC Pride Pavilion — $120 per person: Access to the exclusive NHC Winner’s Circle Tent, including food, an open bar, premium viewing, and networking.
  • VIP NHC Pride Pavilion Table — $900 for eight guests ($112.50 per person): A reserved table for eight inside the exclusive NHC Winner’s Circle Tent, including food, an open bar, premium viewing, and networking.

Proceeds will benefit both GPL and NHC, helping the organizations continue creating welcoming experiences and supporting the LGBTQ+ community. More than a polo club, GPL is a nonprofit organization working to inspire and empower LGBTQ+ individuals through participation in one of the world’s oldest sports. Its mission is rooted in equality, pride, diversity, inclusion, confidence, and camaraderie, creating an environment where differences are not simply accepted, but celebrated. GPL has raised more than $450,000 for charitable partners.

Every Color Tells A Story Color of the Month
August shines in Yellow: a color of joy, celebration, and chosen family. Like the warmth of the summer sun, yellow reminds us that happiness grows brighter when it’s shared. It celebrates the friends, neighbors, and loved ones who stand beside us through every season, proving that family is defined not only by where we come from, but by the people who choose to walk life’s journey with us. In New Hope, that spirit of connection has always been at the heart of our community.

For Jordan Mauger, a longtime community member who lives in New Hope with his husband and two children, yellow represents the love and support that have shaped both his experience as a member of the LGBTQ+ community and as a father. Through adoption, Jordan’s family has come to embody the meaning of chosen family, built on intentional love, acceptance, and unwavering commitment. Surrounded by friends, neighbors, allies, and a community that has embraced his children from the very beginning, he has witnessed firsthand how belonging can transform lives. Whether it’s watching his children light up during the Pride Parade or celebrating the countless “guncles” and “launts” who have become part of their extended family, Jordan’s story reminds us that the greatest joy comes from lifting one another up. The limited-edition August Yellow i am new hope tee celebrates the light, laughter, and love that make New Hope feel like home and will retire at the end of the month.

This is also your last chance to shop the i am new hope Summer Collection. Available only through August, these limited-edition tank tops feature every color released so far in the Every Color Tells a Story campaign: Pink, Green, Light Blue, Purple, Blue, and White. Once summer ends, these exclusive tanks are gone. Every purchase supports New Hope Celebrates’ mission to preserve and celebrate the LGBTQ+ history, culture, and community that continue to make New Hope a place where everyone belongs.
